I just bought the boat and thought i would drain the gear oil when water came out. Does this mean there is damage in gear case or just leaky seals?

I'd try replacing the vent/fill washers and changing the lube. Lots of folks think they can be re-used, but it's cheap insurance to use new. Run the motor, and if water shows up again it's time to pressure test and see what other seal is leaking.

I would look over the gear case housing very carefully. I also have a 125 Force that I just replaced the seals last week. I keep my boat in the water all summer long and this was the first time I had to do this this in a very long time. I would change out the gear oil and take it for a short run. Then pull it out of the water and just crack the drain plug to see if any water comes out. If so, time for some seals.

Good luck!

Do use new VENT/FILL screw gaskets each time you open them up. They are cheap (abt 5 for 2 buks)--And Do try draining and refilling.
Take it out for the day, and recheck it when you get back home..Any water at all, and you have a bad seal or seals.
The way to find out WHICH seal or seals before tear-down,is to charge the lower unit with about 10LBs (no higher)of air pressure, and submerging it.
If bubbles come from the prop area, you have a bad propshaft seal, and won't need to remove the L/U to repair...If you get bubbles out of the water intake, you have a bad driveshaft, shift shaft, or water pump housing seal, and you will need to remove the L/U to repair. And if so, you may as well get an impeller, and kill to birds with one rock.
