Re: 125 Force how to get more speed
Easiest way to get 5 MPH is to bolt on a 150 at the transom. Even then, you may not see a full 5 MPH.
You can gain a couple of MPH by playing with the engine height on the transom, using a stainless prop, and experimenting with different props --both design and pitch. Gaining speed is not a simple bolt-on process unless you do opt for a larger engine. Rather, it takes time and dedication. You must experiment, changing only one thing at a time and observing the results.
You can NOT gain speed without using a tachometer and GPS for speed readings because different props will run at different RPM and yet may or may not improve speed. You need to interpret speed vs. RPM.
If you are currently using a hydro-foil, try running without it. They can knock off some top end.
Understand that Force engines are a 50 year old design. They are simple and utilitarian, will get you there and back, will last if maintained, but are no race engines. While horsepower gains can be made with engine modifications, it is very difficult to get them to perform like newer designs. That is probably one reason why Mercury discontinued making them.
