125 force lower unit shift rod

hello i can pull my shift rod all the way out.It has a thread like it can screw back in,, but it will not screw up in anything. i brought this boat as project, my question is ,, is there anyway i can fix this quick lower unit all the way down

You got a photo? I've got my LU out right now and there's a coupler that the shift rod threads into...

It should screw into the shift coupler which looks like this (see pic). If you cannot locate the hole, it's probably in a shift position other than vertical. You can keep trying but the correct process is to remove the driveshaft cover plate, which of course involves removing the entire waterpump housing and plate, which will require a new gasket.

hello mates,,,i finally got it, after seeing your pic,,i had to take that cover plate off(oil everywhere lol), drain rest of oil then i seen it.it was facing down(coupler) i just turned it around and it screwed right up...thank both of yall for taking the time to reply. save me alot of money,, inbox me your paypal beer on me......
