I have a 87 125 force that I'm trying to bring back to life. It has good compression 105-110 but no spark. This is my first big newer engine ( points, coil ) I don't know where to start. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

An standard 87/125 has no points.But 4 coils.It's has 2 power packs.
Look under the flywheel to see if the magnet is loose.
Check the kill switch.
Check for loose connections on all wiring.
Then outboardignition.com has test procedures.J

sounds like the power pack went out or bad ground, i have a 75 hp and its usually a bad ground

be careful and disconect battery before disconnecting wiring on power pack or you can blow it.

Re: 125 force no spark

a good way to know if the problem is not the ignition switch or the safety switch, disconnect the main harness in the motor , and jump the solenoid between the small yellow wire and the red battery cable, check for spark, be careful to no to have fuel in the carburetors , because it can fire up, ...if it does , just plug the harness back and will turn off.. if it does have spark ..the problem is by the ignition switch

Re: 125 force no spark

This is from outboardignition.com and I have questions

1. Disconnect kill wire AT THE PACK.

Witch wire is the kill wire?

2. Check for broken or bare wires on the unit, stator and trigger.
3. Measure DVA voltage of the stator between the output wire sets. With everything connected, readings should be approximately 180 volts or more. Resistance readings between the stator wire sets range from 680 - 800 ohms.

What is DVA voltage? Do I do this step with the batt connected? What are output wire sets?

4. Disconnect the rectifier. If the engine fires, replace the rectifier.

Thanks

I got it to fire on #2 only so does that mean I have a bad trigger or what?
