I got a 125 Force on a 85 Bayliner Carpi. When I bought the boat it had on it a 13.25 x 17 prop already on it. At WOT, I am able to reach almost 4,000 RPMs. Any sugestions on if I should change props? Or is the one it cam with the right one for this boat?

I posted my original thread here: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=481933

But I am new here and not sure if my prop question would get answered in the Engine section of this forum.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi MM, welcome aboard!

Take a look at this link and see where you can provide some essential data http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=287818

Several of us look forward to helping when we get the necessary information.

Thanks and good luck!

When posting a question about propellers, you cannot get a reasonable answer unless you provide the following information in your post: Items 1-4 are essential for meaningful response to most questions.
1) Performance issue you are trying to correct.
Speed. I havent taken the boat out since changing the air to fuel ratio (which increased RPMS at WOT from 2700 to 4000). But at 2700 RPMS I was maxing out at 15mph.
2) Current prop manufacturer, model, aluminum or stainless as a minimum.
Aluminum. All I know about it is that it is marked with this: 131/4R17MWC.
3) Current prop diameter and pitch (required).
All I know about it is that it is marked with this: 131/4R17MWC.
4) Wide open throttle RPM and speed with an average load (very helpful)

5) Engine/drive make, model, year, and HP
Force 125 HP 1985
6) Boat make model, year, length and weight
Bayliner Capri 1900 1985 18.5 feet long and weight is around 1800 with no passengers

Before you go playing around with props, go back to the Force forum and read the sticky: synchronizing timing and carbs. Do a compression check on all four cylinders and check the complete fuel system for partial clogs. Replace the fuel pump diaphragm. Check that the ignition is firing all four plugs.

DO NOT run the engine until you do these things--You have played with the carb mixture without the proper knowledge base and that is a recipe for disaster. Detonation and melted pistons.

Once you get the engine diagnosed and running reasonably, THEN come back for prop advice.
