I am troubleshooting my prestolite tilt/trim motor. It seems the brushes have worn out and are barely hanging onto the wires. Can these be replaced? I know this particular tilt/trim unit is no longer available. I can't find an ID number on it but it says "prestolite". Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill

Aftermarket motors are available.
Try iboats mall or NAPA parts store.

Thanks, roscoe. I have tried iboats mall, but the matching replacement motor is no longer available. Is there no way to just improvise some kind of replacement brushes for the old tilt trim pump motor, or will i have to buy a new completely different motor? It has a two wire lead and four hydraulic lines. It works perfectly if i could just replace those dang contact brushes! Appreciate your advice!

Yeee Haaa! I knew it! After trying at two auto electrical rebuild places locally and being told I would have to buy a new motor (200 300 dollars),that "you can't buy just the brushes",I finally found one honest man, who sold me two perfect brushes for 8 bucks!!! I soldered those suckers in and she works like a charm! Khoonie sticks it to the man again, this time for 182 american dollars!(I spent ten bucks on gas looking for it.) Thanks iboats and roscoe for steering me on the right tack!!!

Super cool.
I was going to suggest a shop that repairs/rebuilds alternators and starters.
