I replaced the water pump and have done this twice before but this time unable to install the driver shaft into the upper engine splines any easy suggestions for quick installation, unable to line it up for some reason.

Have had trouble on occassion.
After getting driveshaft into leg and in approximate location, lower the tilt n trim so the motor is near vertical. Seems to be easier for me to get things lined up this way.
Maybe roate the driveshaft 1/8 turn before starting assembly.

Re: 125 hp force-remounting drive shaft to engine

Boy, I'm having the same problem. Unfortunately mine is in the water and its cold...I have it lined up with longer bolts so it should go, but it doesn't. I tryed rotating the prop to line up the splines..no good. Is there anything weird about the splines..I should have looked at them properly. I assume they fit in any position as long as splines line up. I'm I wrong??? Please advise before I get soaking wet and remove it again. Thanks, Bob

also....when I first took it down I noticed something black plop into the water. Went to the parts counter and seems nothing is in there that could have fell. The black tube attaching to the pump is still there. Any idea what fell in?? Maybe the last guy in there left me a present!!! thanks, Bob

ohpoppy,

tuning the prop only works if the lower unit is gear. The small rod in front of the shaft controls the gear. If you pull it up or push it down, the unit is in forward or reverse, turing the prop will then turn the upper shaft.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious :)

Jeff
