Last week one of my twin 125s over heated, shut down unit to let cool. When I tried to restart neither unit would turn over (starter didn't spin). Ran new plug wires topped off batteries and installed spare solenoid on right unit. Neither unit will still spin starter. Starter will spin by jumping solenoid, what are odds 3 units go bad all at the same time. Lights, tilt, choke and everything else working fine. Just dead in the water. PS will any auto solenoid substitute for force unit for testing.

Re: 125 starting problems

you have a big wire from the battery and a big wire to the starter. then you should have a little wire that runs from your ignition switch to the solnoid, try to jump power to the terminal the little wire connects, if the starter turns the solnoid is good and your problem is in you ignition wire. if not then it is the solnoid or bad ground to solnoid. dumb question , but did you check the fuses? my guess is that the solnoids are good cuz what are the odds of both goin out but wierder things have happened. also check the wire maybe it melted due to overheating, my 125 has the wires ran stupid and can melt easy. please keep me posted on what you figure out.

Re: 125 starting problems

thanks everyone the problem was traced to shifter, adjusted cables for neutral and did the trick. Even though it was in neutral it wasn't in neutral enough for starting. Found the problem by (wiggling) shifter and turning key at same time. Hope this helps others, and saves someone else the half day tracing down the usual suspects.
