I also own a mid 80s yammy 15 and 1995 yammy 9.9 ( both 2 strokers) for 2 skiffs I own. I have run the gas out of these engines for about 2 years now with no problem. But now that I think about it, you are right to run it out almost out. But how do you tell when to stop. I am very interested in this. Thank you for all of your feedback.

Yama,<br />Shut it down as soon as it starts to sputter out. That will leave enough in there to keep things from drying out.

i never run the gas out just switch it off and go home never have a problem . i mightif i let it set for a long time . a little gas will evaporate quick .leave it full it will keep it there longer once in a while i will pump new gas in if ilet it set several months . that dont happen here . my 2 cents worth <papasage >

Isn't that the reason for the little bulb in the gas line? To fill the bowls and pressure the fuel line before starting?<br />Is this the same discussion as the other discussion started by yamahamaninmobileal89? Would be a good idea to stick to the topic instead of beginning an new one.
