I believe the foam in my bass boat is water logged...The boat is very sluggish out of the hole and takes awhile to plane out,,,motor runs good and strong, I thought it was a motor problem, but after reading other threads about water logg problems, I went out and pulled a rod holdder out of the gunnel wall and the foam inside is wet and gritty like a sand texture,,,,How would I remove the foam from the side walls with out ruining the fiberglass , is there a for sure way of telling if it is truely water logged......I propped the boat up at about a 50 degree angle for the night to see if I can get any water out of it tomorrow,,,,,,Is this boat worth saving or should I sink it??

One way to check for water is to weigh the boat and compare against what it "should" weigh. If it is truely waterlogges there is no way to get the water out short of removing the waterlogged foam. It will never drain out.

what boat make model, pictures. what motor? you can also take a 2 inch hole saw, and cut a hole in the floor where you think the foam is the thickest. then use a piece of 3/4 -1 inch pvc with teeth cut into one end, now twist this into the foam. it will give you a core plug. push the foam out of the pipe. if it is wet it will be very obvious. if dry use 3m5200 to replace the wooden circle.

The boat is a 1980 raycraft 13' equipped with a 84' johnson 40 seahorse..Needs alot of work,,,,but I'm just going to do it little by little. My biggest concern is the motor and the water logged foam...I have to work all weekend so I haven't had time to drill some holeand see how bad it is......My concern is ------is this boat worth the investment and time in restoreing,,,am I just wasteing my time?
