my 130 mercruiser runs great from 3000 rpm and lower but acts like its running out of gas beyond that. keep getting rusty crud in copper filter on carb. have installed fuel water seperator also .could the pick up screen be getting clogged under high rpm because the fuel pump is sucking harder? boat has new floor and dont really want to tear it back up. shoud i just keep running it till alll the crap runs out? or might it be something else. boat has been completely tuned up w/ new cap rotor plugs wires points condenser. and carb has been cleaned. any suggestions would be appeciated, thank you

The "rusty crud" sounds worrisome. You might get away with running it and see if the crap runs out, so give it a try. If you keep getting "rusty crud" you may have a more serious problem.<br />In the meantime you should try to locate all the filters between the gas tank and the carb. Sometimes - tho rarely - there is a tiny filter where the fuel tank line enters the fuel pump. I've had an engine stall out because of that kind of sneaky setup.

a older thompson i have had plugged screens on the bottom of the pickup in the tank.that took a while.another boat was plugged at the elbow coming out of the tank.there was a check valve there.lots of corrosion.was told that was common.hth
