130HP becoming a money pit

I just finished overhauling my 1997 130HP Johnson but I haven't been able to try it out. The first time I took it out the shifting cable went out so as soon as I dropped it, I was ready to get it back on the trailor again. This weekend I dropped it but when I put it in gear, it would make sudden jerks forward. It didn't do any such jerks in neutral, so I assume now I have a lowe unit problem. I took it in to the guy who has been doing all the work and we said would look into it. Any ideas at what I may be looking at. The mechanic had replaced the bearings prior to tryout because of a humming/whistling noise coming from the lower unit.

Replaced which bearings?

If the lower unit was off, be sure to have the shift rod adjusted properly before reinstalling it.

If the shift rod height is correct and you had to replace a shift cable, make sure that is adjusted properly.

Good luck!
