Hi all, looking to install a floor on my 14' grumman v-hull and think I have a pretty good game plan for what materials to use thanks to extensive searching through this site. Probably 1/2" exterior plywood sealed with gluvit then carpeted. Were the gunnels meet the bottom of the hull is notched so I can lay the plywood in and gravity should hold it in place. this way I could easily remove and really avoid any rotting issues. My question is this: the boat is 52" wide, and would essentually have 2 34" long sectoins between the bench seasts. I'm pretty sure the flooring will flex, particularly across the beam w/o any support. there are no stringers to support the floor, only concave ribs for support along the bottom of the v-hull. Anyone have ideas on how to support the floor? I thought of running a beam down the middle of the boat, cutting notches to fit the ribs and screwing the floor onto that. Any thoughts or experiece would be greatly appreciated. I'll take a picture tomorrow and post if that will help.. Thanks, DAVE

Dave you coud actually bend up some aluminum stringers to rivet to the ribs like Starcraft did it . Feel free to click on the link at the bottom of my post . That will take you to my resto where there are hlf decent pictures of the aluminum stringers . They basically look like a Z from the ends only more upright :D. You could most likely get away with one stringer right down the middle with a 14'er.

I don't want to speak as to the suitability for use in an Aluminum hull, but my 16' 'Glass hull came from the factory with only a single stringer down the center.

The floor was 40" wide and a total of almost 12' long and survived 40-ish years. Then again, my floor was 3/4" ply too, a fair bit stiffer than 1/2". But then too, it was fully glassed in.

Are you planning on leaving the benches in there as is? (found your pics on a different forum), so I know what you are talking about. I think you have two ways to go; build a full floor and completely seal it in glass to prevent water from entering areas you don't want it to, or do a removable floor similar to Huron Angler is doing in his tinnie resto
