Boat is a 1984 Lund DLX with original deck flooring and carpet. There is a soft spot in the deck and want to replace it over the winter. Has anyone here done one of these boats yet? The decking looks to be held in place by some sort of rivet as there are what looks like rivet heads showing in the carpet.

Re: 14' Lund deck replacement

Thanks oops,

I had read through both of those once before and they were very well done projects but not quite what I was looking for.

Was hoping to find some one that has actually done an aluminum Lund with the same deck construction as the one I have.

In particular, under the wood decking are there aluminum stringers that run fore and aft that the wood is riveted to as that is the way it appears or are there aluminum ribs/bulkheads under it instead.

This looks like a very simple construction technic that was used to put this deck down and is under 4'x8' in area. So I will keep watching and looking around so that when I'm ready to do this I wont have any surprises.

Re: 14' Lund deck replacement

are you planning on pulling the floor out this fall or next spring? i have a 1989 16ft rebel i plan to replace the floor on next spring. i have had the same questions you have. so i guess which ever of us starts first will have the answers. after the fiberglass boat i have replaced the floor in i think this is going to be a piece of cake. i haven't decided if i am going to use vinyl or non skid to finish the new floor but i know that the carpet is history. whoever's idea it was to put carpet in something that gets wet and dirty must prefer to spend their time cleaning instead of on the water.

Re: 14' Lund deck replacement

Will most likely be doing it over the winter after the water gets hard. The Rebel should be very simular to the S14 15 DLX so I will do my best to post pictures when I do it.

I really don't have a problem with carpet. For me it has both pros and cons. I've also looked at a vynl product that Bass Pro Shops carries, just haven't decided which way I'll go.

[DOH!! Answered in the next post by BONZ_D. I should'a querried "deck" instead of "floor". I'll figure out the foam question when I remove the DECK. PICS: Lund S14 DLX In-progress]

So, what were the results of the work of Bonz_D and Marquette? Pics and a brief description of what you found would be great.
(There are no other related posts.)

I have a '95 Lund Rebel 16' tiller steer. It has 50 aluminum rivets holding the carpet-covered plywood floor to aluminum stringers. The boat leaks, and has a soft spot in one corner of the floor. I could live with either, but not both, so I may pull the floor. Some of the leaks are due to pin holes, probably generated from salt water left standing in the bilge or from wet bunks underneath. I put 5" of water in the boat , and could only find one small pinhole dripping water. I could not find the other leaks. The "fill with water" method did not work for me on another aluminum Lund for finding leaks. Sealing with Gluvit on the inside hull (and bucking/replacing a few rivets) will likely solve the problem. Pulling floor and foam will be necessary for the leak stop process.

Thank you, Marquette, for the post on which floor rivets to use, and where to find them. Rivets

Questions:
1) Is there room for an under-floor fuel tank, say about 6 gallons?
My Lund has a small hatch that looks like it is supposed to provide access to a fuel tank top or electrical connections.

2) Is it possible to re-use the foam? If you removed foam, were the chunks destroyed?
I would prefer not to use pour-in foam, either "stuck" to the hull or free-floated with plastic bags. I will likely spill fuel at some point, and don't want to use "pink" styrofoam. Thus, could I use the original foam, just put it back and let it free-float?

Re: 14' Lund deck replacement

Finally got mine done this summer. Wasn't to difficult. The S14 DLX has a split seat in the middle and the decking is layed first so the seat pan sits on top of the deck. I just refastened mine down with SS sheet metal screws.

The Rebel should be quite easy as well. I have posted pictures of what it looked like with the deck out. Subject is Lund S14 DLX In-progress. Last post was 7/21/09
