14"rim 5 lug 4.5" spacing...what is typical backspacing of a 205/75 14 tire/rim?

trying to find info on typical backspacing. my trailer has 13"tires on it. would like more weight rating (currently 13" is 1480) so thinking of stepping up to a 14"rim. seen some d rated tires which i believe all are bias ply. i found a 14" g.m. car rim that has correct rim but with the tire mounted, it hits frame/leaf spring perch. the rim i tried had 5 3/4"backspacing. if i had about 1" less i think id be able to fit. can someone tell me a typical 14" trailer rims backspacing and if what im asking will work? thanks in advance!!!

Are you talking about from the face of the inside of the rim to the farthest back point the tire would be?

If so, I just measured mine and got 4 1/8"

This is with older E78-14 tires, but they are pretty comparable to 205/75/14. That's what I replaced my trailer tires with (the ones I measured were my old ones sitting in a pile next to my garage).

EDIT: BTW, these are the tires/wheels I replaced them with. Bought the wheel/tire combo because my rims were starting to rust a little, and the cost was so close to just tires alone.

Typical offset on a trailer rim is 0 - meaning that the lug surface is at the center of the rim.

Why bother with car rims? A 14" D rated tire on a rim costs around $100

Or just switch to a D rated 13" tire. You can get Bias and Radials on etrailer in a D rating

The 175/80/13 Bias D rated is what I run on mine

BE careful with "GM" FWD rims that might SEEM to fit. The GM bolt pattern is 5x115mm where as the 5x4.5 is 5x114.3mm. By the high offset I'm going to assume you have a pair of FWD GM rims that are the incorrect pattern. 2x4 Ford rangers and some older jeep vehicles used 14" rims with near zero off set and the correct 5x4.5 pattern.

I don't think I've ever seen or heard of a jeep that has 14" wheels. Jeep YJ/TJ (Wranglers) and XJ/MJ (Commanche/Cherokee) have 5x4.5 bolt pattern but none of them are anywhere near a 0" offset.

I think we are confusing backspacing and offset. Anyways typical trailer wheels are 0 offset and depending on width... backspacing is usually around 3.25" on a 5.50" wide standard trailer wheel.

The center hole on most passenger car wheels is too small for most trailer hubs.
I ran into that trying to use a spare off my Ranger on a buddies boat trailer.
Both the offset and center hole made them unusable.
Ranger/Aerostar wheels have a slight negative offset.
Even if the center hole was made larger, the tires may hit the frame of the trailer, depending on the axle length on your trailer.
Trailer rims are also heavier duty rims that stand up to the abuse of trailer use.

As said, the GM wheel is NOT 5/4.5. No it won't work. Offset is a relation to wheel width, not backspacing. A 4wd Ranger wheel won't work, a 2wd ranger wheel will in many cases, a 2wd Toyota truck wheel is another option.
