So I just got the motor from the mechanic who changed the reed gasket and charged me 540. He wanted to change the ppower pack because he says it was missing out on cylinder 3, but he wanted to charge 250 more and I told him no I can change the pack myself. So I bought a powerpack for 120 and installed it and now the motor runs worse than ever. SO im down 640 and have a broke motor. ANyway everyone keeps tellin me its the vro so I worked on it this weekend and heres what happened. I tried putting a fuel pump from a 110 johnson on the 140 and didnt have much luck because there was no nipple for the crankcase pulse hose so I tried to modify the fuel pump and put my own nipple on the back of the pump at the hole, which usually lines up on the block for the 110. SO I took it on the water just to see what would happen and got on a plane and ran good for about 30 secs. Then it just killed like it ran out of fuel. COuld barely get back in. It would start bbut soon as i put it in gear it killed. Got back in and was showing a friend and all of a sudden it got on a plane again and ran perfect for about a minute and then again it killed and i could barely get in. Seems to be a fuel issue but I dont want to spend anymore unnecessary money. My uncle told me to bypass the fuel pump and just connect the hose from the gas tank to the hose goin to the carb and then plug the pulse emitting hose from the crank case and just have someone pump the bulb while I run the motor and he said if it runs good and gets on a plane then its probably the fuel pump. Any suggestions?

Concentrate on the fuel pump for a minute. The conventional lift pump is too small for that big bore looper. If you are going to use them you have to use two and you need to be sure that they have the large fittings on them.

You can use the original pulse hose and connection from the VRO2 as long as the pulse limiter is blue and gold and not black.

The VRO2 pump makes a good pre-mix pump at no cost if it still works on the gasoline side. It is more powerful than any lift pump.

Be sure to use a 50:1 gas:eek:il mix.

Symptoms often applied to a bad powerpack may be caused by the QuikStart function on your engine not releasing. You can and should troubleshoot the ignition system using the CDI Electronics troubleshooting guide before replacing components. http://cdielectronics.com/AppGuide.aspx

The QuikStart automatically advances the timing for a cold start anytime the motor is restarted and release the advance when the engine reaches 96 degrees or 1100 RPM. If the system does not release, the engine will run poorly. You should both feel and hear the change when the advance is released.
