140 johnson idle problem

:confused: i have a j140tlcte enjine rebuilt last yr.a couple days ago i idled up to ramp it died sounded like compression come out the carb or something ,started back and seemed fine, few days before that i tilted the motor up like if you were in shallow water it died like it ran out of gas. started up ran good . doyou think i may need plugs or something.thanks for your help.

1983 Crossflow 140hp Johnson.

Whether you need spark plugs or not is a judgement call only you can make. We are not there to inspect them.

The engine requires Champion QL77JC4 plugs, gaped at either .040 or .030, whichever gap works best for you.

If you tilt the engine beyond the trim range... in all probability it will stall as you are trying to force the engine to pull fuel up too steep an incline.

thanks Joe for your quick responce sorry for my slow get back been on new camper repair no innernet. iv been using ul 77v plugs they were in motor when i got it.i think you are right with the tilt.thanks again may the wind keep your sails full
