140 johnson

18' ranger with a 140 johnson, the engine was bebuilt and now the boat will not plane out unless someone goes and stands on the front of the boat. with the throttle all the way down, the motor only revs up halfway. when weight is applied to the front and the boat planes out then the engne will rev up. sometimes seems like it just spins??? any idea? prop?

Sounds like its trimmed out too far.

cj,<br /><br />Two things.<br /><br />1. The prop may be spun-the hub is spinning inside the prop outer hub.<br /><br />2. You are starving for fuel/spark, or a combination of the two.<br /><br />Your post doesn't say how many rpms's you can achieve.<br /><br />If you achieve full rpm, the prop is the culprit. <br /><br />If not, you have an engine running problem.
