Noticed a pin hole in the water intake hose inside the gimbal housing. How do you replace that hose? It's a '76 140 pre-alpha #1 drive. I've already got the outdrive removed for other work. I can see where the hose clamp is up at the transom end but can't see where it attaches to the bell housing. Do you have to remove the bell housing?

Ok, I see the clamp on the bell housing end from looking up from the underside of the gimbal. Man I hope this is not as bad as it looks. Looks like some long screwdrivers & a whole lot of "holding your mouth right" to get the transom end back on there.

You can get to it with a socket, extensions. It's a tight area, and hopefully someone put the clamp in a spot you can get to.

Yeah, it's in a spot that it looks like I can get on it with a 1/4" ratchet & extension. I'm just thinking about how to get that hose back on the copper tube. Hopefully it won't be too bad. I'll soap it up real good & slippery first & maybe it'll push right on there. I'll never get my big meat hooks up in there to work on it. Thanks grub.

I've got the hose off. Man, that was a chore, that hose was about as flexible as concrete. And it was molded to those nipples something fierce. Surely it has to go back together easier than it came apart, lol. I guess I'll find out in the morning. Jim.

I've gone to the extreme sometimes. I took an old knife, dulled the entire blade except the tip, reached in there and split the hose, being carefull not to cut the bellows. then it comes off easier. A hose pick works great if ya can reach it.

On the inside of the transom there's two bolts that mounts the copper elbow as it goes thru the transom. It almost looks like a guy could take that off & put the hose on that tube & then push it thru from the inside & bolt the elbow back to the transom plate???
Of course those two bolts might be as hard to get to as just working the hose up into the gimbal housing.
