Hi Guys,<br /> I could use some help I have a 1978 johnson 140 that runs pretty well some of the time.Last week went out fishing going along at about 50mph when I lose power top speeed drops down to around 35mph.This problem has been has been going on for about six months off and on but it has been getting worse latley.Took off the hood on the water and pulled plug wires was getting spark on all cylinders except number 1.The motor ran on 3 the rest of the day until about five minutes before I got off the water not a fouled plug changed them.Got any guesses timer base or stator. Thanks

Did you swap plug wires and see if the problem continued? In other words, did you try a different wire on the one that was not firing?

Check and clean all coil connections, especially the grounding straps.
