New guy here. My dad passed away at 55 due to a brain tumor. I have finally decided to fix up the boat we spent so many hours together on. After sitting for 2 years while he had cancer, the motor wouldn't turn over. Got all that worked out but now I've come to find out there are some structural repairs to be done. The biggest is the front deck. It isn't a standing platforrm. It's a storage area. I put some weight in it and it cracked. It's very soft. I have NEVER done any glassing and it honestly seems like a daunting task. Would I be able to replace the plywood underneath and glass over it easily?

If so, how would I do this? Forgive my ignorance! If I need to explain anything else please ask.

Check everything that probably isnt all of the rot. Probably got to cut it all out and re do it.

Drill holes in things and see if the wood inside is good and dry.

There are stickies you should read I need to remember where they are to post. Someone will post them for you.

It is alot of work but you can do it. I did and i knew nothing about boats before I started.

This forum is the place to be for help doing this stuff. Welcome and hope you enjoy working on yours as much as I did working on mine.

Ditto to above. Once you get the help it turns out to be a labor of love! Albeit a little nasty. But hey you get a better boat back in the end. Lots of good guys and info here. Most of us started exactly where you're at.
Get some more pics up of overall boat so we can take a look.

I'm restoring a 17' Glasstream myself. I've never done any fiberglassing or boat work either. It does seem a bit daunting but the guys here will help along the way. They make it sound super easy.

Where are you located?

Fiberglass work is EEEEZZZZZZEEEEEE PEEEEZZZEEEEE!!! For above water fixes like you show in your pic, you just sand it down really well with 60 grit and then apply resin and a few layers of Chopped Strand Mat(CSM) and then a couple layers of finish fabric and she'll be strong and good as new.
