I've owned this little motor for a couple years and have noticed heat just under the cowling on the housing. It gets warm to the point where it's close to burning your hand or at least it feels that way. Called a merc dealer and explained it to him and he said it was normal. The motor's t-stat is doing it's thing and it has plenty of power. Just feels really hot to me. I never remember my 80's Evinrude's generating that type of heat.
