hey, i have a question about my 2002 mercury 15m 2 stroke. while running the other day i was looking back at my motor and noticed the two holes, on either side of the outboard just above the lower unit, were putting water out. the holes open the area where the water pump, shift rod and main shaft are to the outside. the tell tale is putting out a good steady stream of water. was wondering if this maybe water pump blowby. the water pump is connected to the pipe up to the power head by a rubber piece (nothing clamping it)so it probably can't be totally water tight. is it normal to have some water coming out of these holes? where does cooling water go after it has gone up into the powerhead? out with the exhaust? thanks in advance.

The water you're seeing above the lower unit is the cooling water after it has done it's job (cooling). The last thing the cooling water is used for is as a spray into the exhaust gas as it enters the driveshaft housing to cool it so it doesn't burn the driveshaft housing.

is it possible for a water pump to leak water pressure where the main shaft goes through the water impeller housing?

Usually a leak around the driveshaft will suck air into the water pump. If you are getting a good solid stream of water out of the telltale, then you don't have anything to worry about....
