I posted this a few months ago, but I'll try again.... Last year I bought a 15 hp evinrude that
looks to have been the victim of abuse. Mechanically the motor isn't bad... it needed a few
things done (which I have taken care of), but aesthetically it's a bit beat up and scratched.
In keeping with this general "unloved" look, the I.D. plate is missing. On the frost plug, there
is a number (presumed serial number) stamped, but there are no letters etc. in that, like should be
in the model #.

I've read things that say that the ignition systems changed from say '76-early 80's. Is there
a way to tell by looking at it whether it has a newer ignition system (and then be able to figure out
approximate year), or whether it has an older ignition system? So far all the parts I've needed are
the same across these years, but I realize that some things might not be, that's where it'd be nice
to have a good guess as to what model it is.

Thoughts?

Brent
