15 hp evinrude wont start

I have a 1986 15 hp Evinrude . I have tried everything but it just won't fire. It has 80lbs. compression in both cylinders , new plugs , carb kit , fresh high test gas , 40-1 oil . I soaked the cylinders in liquid wrench for 2 days . How often does the power pack on these motors crap out ? Could it be weak coils ? This motor sat for about 2 yrs. before I got it . The last time it was used it would run for a little while and then cut out ( so I was told) Any ideas ?

this post would be better on the evinrude engine forum rather than the electrical forum. A mod will probably move it for you.

having said that the first advice I can give you is to buy a spark tester from your local auto-parts store (about $5). If you have a good spark on both cylinders I would get a small spray bottle and put a small amount of gas/oil premix in the bottle then crank and spray a little into the carbs to see if the engine will at least cough and try to start. Report back what you find and someone will carry on advising you what to do next.
p.s don't panic if you do not get a spark from either side just report back what you find
