First, let me say thanks for reading this... the ole "what year is it" question must get a bit boring you regulars. Here's my problem.... just over a year ago a bought a 15 hp evinrude. It runs good, but is a bit beat up on the outside. It looks like either, it's been flown in a lot, or rolled around the back of a truck a lot. I just noticed that the badge with the serial/model number is gone. From my initial exploring on the web, I read somewhere that the model # should also be stamped in the quarter sized plug on the right side of the motor.... Mine says "C7155299" and that's all. I'm sure it'd be either mid-late '70's or possibly early '80's.

I should point out that it is a Canadian model (has bilingual labelling on the motor), so the "C" it might stand for Canadian. Does the "7" mean 1977, and the rest the model number?

Other bits of info about the motor... it has a smooth black grip on the tiller, that's different than the checked grey ones I usually see. The cowling is white and decal has a red strip border, dark
blue background and says "evinrude 15" at top, and has a light blue then a darker blue stripe below the evinrude. (I had thought I could tell the year from the decal details, but that doesn't
seem easy to do). Oh, and it does have the water flow indicator... I understand some of the early ones ('75) didn't.

I told the parts guy at the local OMC this number and he told me it didn't mean anything, but he didn't exactly seem like the most helpful kind of guy or a pillar of knowledge if you know what I mean.

I'd like to figure out the year/model # in case I need parts that might be model or year specific,
like ignition parts...

Thanks for your help.

Brent
