15 hp no spark

i have a 86 15hp. the motor sat for about a year. last time it was run it ran good. i went to start the motor recently and found it to have no spark. how do i best determine the faulty ignition component without buying all new parts. it is a 2 cyclinder, both don't have spark.

Isolation of the failure is well covered in most Repair Manuals, C20.<br /><br />Among the possibilities are ignition kill circuitry (wouldn't you feel bad if you bought a new powerpack, then found a shorted switch or broken wire?).<br /><br />You can borrow a manual at your local library, buy an aftermarket manual here or get a factory manual through your JohnnyRude dealer.<br /><br />Good luck.

Doesn't it **** you off? The thing runs great, you put it up in storage, and while its sitting there doing nothing something breaks?<br /><br />Crap like this always pisses me off!!!

Classic,<br />I have a 86 Ev 15 hp. Mine did about the same thing. Turned out to be the powerpack. Put a new one on and never had another problem. They fail without warning, result is no spark, no fire, no where. A newby is about 60 bucks. Try this site for info on your motor, esp ignition section.
