I have a 16' 65 starcraft fiberglass boat with a 15 inch transom im restoring, the motor i picked up is a 66 45HP chrysler, i will be needing to add some height to the transom because distance between where the bracket rests on the transom and the antivent plate is 23 inches, how high up should i build the transom and can anyone offer any tips on how to do this safely and efficiently? does the anti vent plate need to line up exactly with the bottom of the boat for maximum performance? will this motor have enough *** to get up and go?

Re: 15 inch transom height increase

dont know about the ponies.....

but the distance form the anti vent plate and the top of the hooks are the transom height at the hanging point......if the motor is on a stand....this is easy to measure.

you can lift the motor 1/4 of an inch for increased performance.....but i wouldnt...just go with stock......if you want to play with the performance by rasing or lowering the drive.....this can be accomplished by shims after.

Re: 15 inch transom height increase

I had the same problem with my boat, 14 ft trihull wiyh a honda 15 hp lonshaft. I know its not the corect thing to do but I have temporarilly raised the transom with a 2X6 and some brakets made of 2X4 and bolted thruogh the transom. Like I said this is only temparary since I just got the boat a couple weaks ago and I want to spend the summer on the water instead of in the garage.
