15 yamaha shift rod problem (HELP) !!

I'm traveling on a sailboat and now stranded... I was going to change my impeller when the foot came loose and my shift rod came loose from the gear box. it did not come out but it just goes up and down now without catching anything.. Any info would be greatly appreciated..

to my knowledge the only way to get the shift follower back on the shift cam on the rod is to remove the propshaft and shaft bearing carrier, reinsrt the rod and reassemble the prop shaft.
your not the first ever pull one loose
