I was looking on the new to me boat and realized that there is no temp. gauge . I would like to install one and was wondering 2 things. First, would you go with a block mount or screw in style and where would either of these be the best place to mount them? Can I use a screw in style where the plug is on top of the thermostat? If block style, I am guessing on the head unit? Thanks for the info.

Yes you can remove the fitting on the top of the head by the thermostat to mount the sending unit. Note: These motors run at about 130?F or 143?F. If you use a standard type automotive analog gauge with a needle, they usually start out at about 120?F. Problem is that when the motor is at normal operation temperature, the needle barely moves. I found one (b'day present from the wife) that reads between 60?F - 200?F. When the motor is at normal temp. the needle is right in the middle of the gauge.

Ditto on the t-stat fitting installation. I was thinking the same with my setup but decided to go with the water pressure gauge instead.
