150 HP Fuel Restriction Horn????

I have a 1990 150 Johnson which has given us 13 years of great service. It started cutting out real bad this past winter, put it in the shop. They put in carb kits on all 3 carbs, still ran bad, changed out the power pack ( whatever that is. Boat runs fine now. The problem is when planed out and running over 3800 RPM's the warning horn comes on, continous horn, our little sticker says it is a fuel restriction, we can run up to 5000 RPM, so I know it is not the overheat horn. The bulb is still hard and pumping it up does not change anything. The only way to get it to stop is by slow trolling or shutting it off. Even after shutting it off for several minutes and just turning it back on it will still be in the alarm mode. I am not a mechanic and I am wondering if the shop I took it to knows what they are doing. I called them and all they want to say is it is in an overheat situation, the motor runs fine, the horn is just driving us nuts. If we stay under 3800 it seems fine, just takes a while to get anywhere. Should this be a warranty problem relating to the carbs being worked on, bad sensor? Is there anything a layman can look for and possibly fix? Any help would be appreciated!!

That was replaced in March when the carbs were redone, The engine acts like it has no fuel restriction, is the sensor that sensitive? Could it be a bad sensor?

I would do four things:
1) replace fuel line on carbs, fuel filter and water separator
2) convert your engine to premix
3) replace your thermostats, spring and poppet valves
4) Check your compression and replace head gaskets and remove the buildup of white deposits on the inside of the heads.

It will cost you $70-90 in parts. You can do it all yourself and would take 2- 3 hours. Once you are done that buzzer should no go off anymore unless you waterpump were to fail.

Okie Bill
I had the same problem with my 1990 150 Evinrude try disconnecting the fuel line to the sensor and plugging it if alarm still goes off you have a bad sensor, mine did from the vibration remember this is a vacuum switch. Worn spring, diaphragm ? There is a vacuum test that can be done I have not done this yet I just disconnected for now as to have functioning warning horn for other systems.
