150 HP V6 TEMPERTURE GAUGE

IS THERE A WAY TO INSTALL A SENDING UNIT TO GIVE AN ACCURATE TEMP READING OF MY 1996 150 CARB. OUTBOARD.......I HAVE A TEMP GAUGE INSTALLED ON THE BOAT THAT READS 100 TO 240 DEGREES FROM MY MERCRUSIER I/O TO OUTBOARD CONVERSION AND WOULD LIKE TO MAKE IT WORK..........

Check to see if there is a sender installed on the left side of the head. It is between the top 2 spark plugs. If so, then the brown wire need to be connected.
The one on the right side if for the overheat sender, it definately needs to be hooked up as that is the only real indicator of the engine being tooooooo hot.
The guage may not work but try it before you change it.
LOOSE the caps, we don't need to be shouted at!

Gary......there is not a sending unit in the port head but looks like there is a place to put one. Is this a merc part# ? Is it the same unit used for the warning horn on the other side........thanks.......

don't mean to yell.............but the eyesight was the 2nd thing to go

No, it is not the same as the overheat sender. They are about $20.00 at Mecury. I have a spare hanging on my bench as I changed mine out and it turned out to be a bad guage. I think it is in the orginal plastic , so should have the part number if you can'd find it. There is a yoke type thing that holds it in place, so if you don't have that , you will need to buy that also.
I hear you on the eyes, I am just taking a break from installing a new depth sounder with "BIG" letters so I can them.
