my buddy s 150 hp force outboard is messed up,,, the lower fin broke off completely,, the lowest part of the motor. is that gonna affect its handling driving steering?? its aluminum can it be replaced,, or welded does any one have one??? i need some help buddys

She will run fine without the skeg --as long as the gearcase is not cracked. If you have the broken skeg, it can be welded back on, however, you must drain the oil from the lower unit beforhand.

If you do not have the broken part, replacement skegs can be purchased (Usually for Mercury) and welded on. Part will cost about 30-40 with shipping and welding will cost about 100.

If enough of the skeg is still present on the gearcase, you can buy a stainless skeg that bolts on.

I made my own 2 1/4" steel plates cut to fit, welded together held in places with aluminum bolts. and a chain on it in case it happens again. but in case is leaking this must be addressed. good luck
