i have a 1985 150 mariner, and i read a thread the other day that said to remove the spark advance module. if i do how do i need to set my timing, please let me know in detail if you can, and let me know if this is good advice or not. this engine somtimes is hard to start, at times it seems to flood and other times it seems to be starving for fuel, i was wandering if this might be a bad advance module.

Your symptoms do not indicate a bad advance module. More likely to be caused by other things, such as dirty carbs, misadjusted carbs, incorrect link and sync, bad fuel pump, air leak in fuel line, fuel line restriction, etc. I would suggest addressing the many other possibilities before removing the module.

Regarding the wisdom of removing the advance module, you will get opinions both ways. Just like there are mixed opinions on the wisdom of removing the oil injection system when it is working just fine.

Add to that list a starter drawing too much current and slightly slow.

Don't ask:D
