I have a v6 Mercury 150 Black Max, and it has a 12 pin connector and my boat has an 8 pin connector. I have been doing research in the manuals I have tracking down wiring schematics so i can use weather pack connectors to scab the two harnesses together. My question is has anyone done this? What needs to be hot 12v positive to get the motor to run? What do i need to shut it off? I know about the soleinoid for the started i got that figured out, but i dont know how to hook the ignition up to get spark. I think i got the trim figured out, is that contained in the 8 pin harness? green is down blue is up? Thanks for all your help. Josh;) 443 206 8443

It is a stock item at your merc dealer. Mine was the opposite, but both are available. The harness is only about a foot long and fits under the cowling.

Is it an adapter plug or do I completley remove the 12 pin harness? I called merc dealer and they got real quiet and didnt know what I was talking about. Do you have a part number?
What wire needs to have 12v positive for ignition while the motors running? Id love to get the harness but just incase i cant does anyone know how to scab the two harnasses?
Thanks for the help!

Re: 150 Mercury Black Max 12 pin connector to 8 pin

I have been struggling with this same problem and my boat has been sitting waiting for an answer. I am trying to avoid rewiring my engine for a new control.

Mercury told me the following, but it turns out that the 93669A2 is an 8-pin to 8-pin connector. I don't know what the 68258A2 is but Merc tells me that part has been discontinued. Nobodys seems to acknowledge that these 12-pin connectors exist.

"We believe you will need remote control adapter harness part number 93669A2. This adapter harness adapts older engines for use with current Commander 2000 series and ignition/choke assemblies. If engine has a single solenoid power trim, then kit 68258A2 is also required. Because of the various remote controls to choose from, we would recommend working with a Mercury dealer to insure that you get the correct set up that you prefer. "

I would have to think that someone makes an adapter for the 12-pin harness.

Any help would be appreciated. My motor is a '79 200HP V6 SN 5239633.

Ken, Start a new thread and post all the wire colors for the motor and the harness you are adapting to.
