Engine specs:
1993 150Hp Ocean Pro
Model: 150EXETR

Im not so good with electrics so bear with me:

Bought the above used engine 9 months ago, had infrequent use since. After buying i inspected the motor and noticed that the plastic plug connecetion from the two yellow wires from the voltage regulator (OMC part No 584093) was melted and broken. I cut that off and reconnecetd yellow wires using shrink fit connectors, but now again one has melted though and broken.Symptom of problem is engine tach gauge stops working and i presume no charging to battery.

Whats wrong?
Should i replace with a new regulator?
Anything else need repalced?
Is this the right 35A regulator for my engine?

Any commets greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Hamish

Hi ya' Hamish!

Yep, sounds like the rectifirer/reg went south. What you might consider doing is to take your rig to a trusted wrench and have them check the stator out. May be ok...but don't take a chance. Look under the flywheel and see if you can see any goo laying around, the stator is probably shot to. Or the Rect/Reg just failed. Running the way you are, you could be overcharging the battery. The new part number for the regulator is 439561. The erotic tach is agood indication that the Reg/Rect is done.

Hey OBJ

Many thanks for the info, i figured i may have to take the boat to a mech as the plug connection for the regulator is also shot and i will need a new one as well, will see what they say. Just need to find a good mechanic in my neck of the woods............

Cheers
H.
