I have brought my boat in for servicing to a local mechanic.
Last week I was out fishing with my buddy and we ran a 12 gallon gas tank empty and the boat stalled on the way back. I had a spare fuel can and filled up the tank. The boat started right away but then puttered out and I could not get it to start again. I assumed I had sucked water into the carbs and had the the mechanic pick it up and asked him to clean the carbs and purge any water out of the motor.
I don't have all the details yet but this mechanic is telling me that because I sucked this small amount of water into the carbs my entire motor is a write off. The strange thing is this boat sunk 2 years earlier and the motor spent 48 hours completely submerged in saltwater. The mechanic who I used back then was able to clean everything out and have the motor in perfect running condition the next day. I find this very strange that my motor is all of a sudden a write off from sucking a small amount of water from the bottom of a 12 gallon tank into the carbs.
Any direction from some Yamaha outboard motor savvy people would be greatly appreciated.
