15hp '87 johnson suddenly no spark.

Start and stopped the motor on the water a good dozen times the other day. Then pulled a 1000 times with no luck. In my garage now with a new rewind starter(broke rope) replaced and I see I do not have spark in either cylinder. Here is what I know.
?Broke my tiller handle, not sure if it might be kill switch problem, but all the wires look fine
?Under the fly wheel is a brown with yellow stripe wire that was grafted with another wire. It was loose but I fixed that.

One thing to add. My throttle does have a kill switch but not the man overboard ring. It never had one and looks like it does not need one. It is just a push button

first thing to try is to disconnect the kill switch.

I disconnected the ground to the kill switch, Is that correct. No spark. Then I took a scientific approach and hit the power pack with a hammer a couple of times. Then my next three pulls I got spark. Then it stopped again. So I whacked it a couple more times and again I got spark for a couple pulls

well, id just get a bigger hammer!!! id now be looking for a bad/corroded ground or a wire corroded inside the insulation. pull the pack, clean all grounds well, and see what happens.

if worst comes to worst, you could always beat on the powerpack with a hammer at 1500 bpms, that should get you 4500rpms at the crank!

So I pulled the powerpack off to get to the ground behind it. it was totally corroded. I cleaned it up and now I get huge spark. Is it really that easy?

It's never that easy! Make sure you carry oars at all times. LOL. Rick.
