15hp evinrude 2 stroke from the 80s no spark

Where do I even start on this project? Got it from a friend and it's been sitting for years, no spark from either cylinder. What resistance readings should I be getting from what? Popped the flywheel off and it doesn't have points like I thought, just like a "pick-up" style coil and another bigger black coil at opposite ends of each other. Need help on the start of my diagnosis, all grounds and connections are clean and free of corrosion btw!

That " wierd " set-up was very, very good and reliable !!------Both coils did not fail.-----That leaves the switch box / powerpack.-----On those 9 times out of 10 a new one restores spark on both.------But check the overall condition of the motor before spending your money.----Maybe it sat for a reason !

Can u send me links on those, not sure why is meant by powerpack bad switch box, I remember them as a magneto and cdi! Haha

Does your motor have the push button kill switch?

Here's an '83 ignition: http://www.iboats.com/Magneto/dm/cart_id.866201694--session_id.054535298--view_id.1547087 #10 is the power pack (CD unit); #54 is the cut off switch.

Helpful to post a model number for your motor.
