I have a 15hp evinrude model 15404s that I inherited from my grandpa. The motor has never over heated and usually runs pretty good. Years back when my grandpa was still alive I got his boat out and put a few dollars into the motor and started using it. I had a friend replace the water pump and impeller back then because it has never shot a full stream of water out the pee hole. Usually when in the water at idle it just spits water. When going across the lake water just kinda of falls out the pee hole. I heard a trick about using weed wacker string and running down the pee hole to free a blockage. From the top it only went in the pee hole about 2 inches and was hitting something. I also tried tie wire with same results. Is this normal? Does the pee hole tube take a weird bend right about where I'm hitting something? Also when I start it in the driveway with a garden hose and the muffs hooked up to it no water comes out of the pee hole at all. When starting motor in the driveway with the garden hose it starts with the first pull every time. When I get it to the lake it seems that I have to pull it 10-15 times to get it to start. I also would like to change the thermostat just because but have no idea where it's even at. Any tips, suggestions, or advice is greatly appreciated.

You need to look up Leeroys Ramblings on your browser. He has written a great deal of excellent information on 9.9, 15's and many others. The reason for a easy start in the drive way could be from lake (high water) back pressure. If you richen your slow speed needle a wee bit that may make a difference. Best of luck.

Your motor is a '74, and has no separate indicatior, or 'pee stream'. The water that comes out the rear port is water exiting the powerhead, through the thermostat, when open. If your thermo is good, motor will not spray much at all when first started, and then spray a bit when warm/idle. It'll pour out at wide open (as the thermostat will stay open then). You can add a pee stream indicator if you wish.. see 'leroy's ramblings' (google it).

Welcome aboard, and good luck!
