Do the plugs look the same? sort of a tan/brown not all black.
If one is exceptionally clean it could indicate water in the cylinder.
You might see if it responds to a little choke.

I may have overstated when I said "rebuilt" the cylinder walls, pistons and rings looked good so I did not do any internal work. what I did do was. new fuel pump and lines, pull carb soak and clean, repair carb stud that had pulled out of block, new sparkplugs, new headgasket, new thermostat/gaskets, new water pump/water line grommets, and a more that im probably forgetting. the motor starts easily and runs great. plugs look the same. motor still runs fine on individual cylinders when I pull spark plug boots at high idle. last night I checked the spark advance mark on the throttle cam and it was way off from the roller I adjusted it to correct positions. will test run again this week when I get a chance and let you guys know what happens

That could make a huge difference in power output if it wasn't advancing spark properly. I'm suspecting you resolved the problem right there.
