Re: 15hp john Pull start wont recoil???? HELP!
It's not that difficult to remove the assembly, but you have to take great care and squeeze it hard when lifting it off. Normally the coil is under a lot of tension so if you're not careful the assembly may separate with the tip of the spring whipping through the air uncontrollably as the spring unwinds. You wouldn't want to have that tip whip around and catch someone in the eye.
The end of the spring may have broken or slipped off so there is no longer any tension in that coil. It will take some practice to reattach the coil and rewind it then get the assembly all back together and remounted.
Putting it all back on is somewhat of a nuisance because you have to line it up properly so that the teat on the assembly bottom slides into the hole meant for it, and the spring for the plastic guide on the side away from the carburetor wants to get in the way as well.
The repair manual has a description and pictures on how to remove and replace, and pictures of what the motor looks like with a properly installed assembly.
