15hp Mariner Serial Number Identification - Help please

Hey Boaters!

I am looking to purchase a used 15hp Mariner motor and wanted to confirm the serial number identification for it.

The serial number tag says the following:

Mariner 15CE
684CL 550713

The guy I might buy from is stating it is an 86. The research I am doing shows that range of serial numbers is '79? Can anybody help confirm this? Thanks.

Yes your serial number shows it to be a 1979 15 HP EL model number 7015529. Both computer lookup and lookup chart confirms this info. Good luck.
