15hp merc. mariner shutting down at speed

I have a 1983 15 hp mariner, and it's been stored for many years. It starts fairly easily, but after it warms up and I push the choke in, after a few minutes it shuts down, like it suddenly ran out of gas. Any suggestions?

Thanks. I read it and I can use some of the advice. I was thinking I'd have to rebuild the carb, no matter how good it looks.
