First off, thanks for the help.
Had a buddy and 2 crab pots in an 8ft Livingston with a 15 horse johnson believe it is early 90's on the back when we went over (too much power, not enough boat) She was upside down for about 20 minutes, the kill switch wasn't working so she sucked a lung-full before she died. Got it running rough that night and the next morning ran clean fuel through it (at the correct mix), and changed the plugs. It ran real bad for probably an hour, and then started to clear up, and was only rough at idle, but smoked bad. I played with the air/fuel mix and got slighty better, still smoked bad. Now a week later, it will barely run(or so says my father in-law, maybe you can see the importance here) I will be working on it tomorow. Any suggestions O Great Ones?

Take the carb off and take it apart and clean it up very well. You wouldnt believe what you have picked up in the water. Replace plugs, blow out the spark plug boots. wouldnt hurt to put a little di-electric grease in them, make sure all parts of motor is water free. spray electrical connections with wd-40. WD-40 was originaly used by the military for water displacement (WD-40)
anyway, treat the motor well with some de-carb and let stand over night. Get it out on the water running a little richer than you would normaly with the oil to gas ratio and run a tank through it. should be ok after that. Its going to smoke its tail off after treating with de-carb, but dont worry. hopefuly nothing is damaged.

Suzuki40

Suzuki40

Will Salt Water change the prognosis that Suzuki posted?

I believe suzuki40 was talking about a decarb of the engine. Adding a SeaFoam to the gas, is a good preventative measure, but does little to remove the existing carbon and other crud that is stuck in your engine.

To clean it out, a spray decarb solvent product, such as SeaFoam Deep Creep, is needed. Some people use one can per cylinder.

Run engine at fast idle, with engine running, slowly spray liberal amount into each carb, its gonna smoke up the place,
spray some more for a minute or two, now spray a larger amount into carbs until engine chokes out and stops,
remove spark plugs and spray decarb liberally into each cylinder, install the spark plugs, let it soak for 3 to 10 hours.
Start the engine and run at medium throttle, or if at the lake, run it at full throttle. It won't hurt to spray some more through the carbs. Run it for atleast 10 minutes to flush the crud out of your engine. Now remove and clean, or replace the spark plugs.

It works well to do the spraying, the night before you go to the lake. This way you can let it soak overnight, and really flush it out at the lake.

Don't do this in front of the garage door or the house, unless you want it coated with greasy crud.
