Purchased this 16 foot aluminum starcraft yesterday. Took it out on the water to make sure there were no leaks and she passed!!!. I have been thinking about stripping the factory paint and leaving the aluminum. What's everbody's thought on stripping the paint? Should I repaint it or strip the paint of and keep the aluminum finish?

Mirrocraft? Or Starcraft?

Isnt this the boat you bought from Joe?

You can strip and leave it bare, leave the paint alone, repaint over the factory or strip it and repaint, totally up to you.

There are pros and cons to each method. Some prefer to strip completely, fully inspect the bare hull and rivets then repaint.

Done correctly, any of the 4 choices can be great choices..

On side of the boat it says mirrorcraft but I was told it's a starcraft. Biggest this I was worried about is if I strip the paint will I start noticing small leaks here and there? I took it out on the water yesterday for about an hr and didn't notice one leak, I just didn't know if the paint works as a sealer as well.

oh and thuddle if you start talking about the motor I gave you, start a new thread on that in the johnson section - you will get much better answers in the specific forums. Then what I so is just link the thread to here once complete so you have a record about the entire project in on thread. Did your dad check it out?
