MY 2 VOLT METERS ( ONE ON FISH FINDER) READ UP TO 16 VOLTS FROM ENGINE
IT SHUTS DOWN THE FISH FINDER AND RADIOS. COULD IT BE A BAD REGULATOR?
AT TROLL SPEED THE METERS READS 14--15 VOLTS.

I'm not sure of your particular motor, but can tell you, many, many outboards come with poor to no regulation, leaving the boat owner to devise ways of not cooking the batteries to death.
Like running two batteries, and all the electrics on the baterry off-line.
Some outboards come out of the crate putting-out 18VDC, with some ac present. It's shameful to say the least.

That would be normal voltage if there is no regulator on the system. In the early years of boating (before electronic locators, ect.) the belief was that there was no reason to add an expensive regulator to the electrical system and that the engine would not be run long enough to create an issue with charging. With most modern electronics, overcharging can lead to the unit cutting itself out to protect from the high voltage. You can tell if you have a regulator/rectifier or a rectifier only by looking at the wires coming from the stator. If the have 2 yellow leads going to a terminal block and one red wire out, that is a rectified system (no regulator). There is a regulator kit available for this system, contact your local dealer for part numbers and pricing.

IF I LEAVE THE FISH FINDER AND GETTO BLASTER OFF IS IT OK TO USE THE MOTOR WHEN IT'S PUMPING OUT 16 VOLTS?
IT JUST STARTED SHUTTING OFF THE ELECTRONICS (RADIO AND FF)
A MONTH OR SO AGO SO SOMETHING HAPPENED TO CAUSE THIS OVER CHARGEING SITUATION.
I LIKE MUSIC WHILE I TROLL, IT HYPNOTIZES THE FISH.
