Hello,

This engine had antifreeze in all 4 cylinders and now the pistons appear to be rusted in place.
I inherited this boat so the details are a little fuzzy, the boat probable sat for 2 to 3 years with the antifreeze in the cylinders. Can this block be bored? If so how much? From reading the post on this site I have learned that this engine has the Ford 460 head, but what about the pistons? Can I use automotive pistons and rings?

Thank you for your help,

Joe

The4 3.7 liter 4 cylinder engine is an aluminum block with cast iron head. There are oversized pistons available (.oo5 and .030 oversized).

This engine has alot of quirks and is expensive to build.

Go to: 470 merc.forum
That is a 3.7 liter mercruiser forum you can get alot of info there.

I own a 1985 170 3.7 I don't think I would spend alot of time on the engine you have. Not really worth the effort at least not to me.
