165 Mercrusier cooling system

Just got a 1975 Fiberform that hasn't run since 1993. Put a hose connection on the outdrive with the water running -started the engine water comes out of the the block drain but not out of the thermostat housing - any ideas - do I need to prime it at the water pump?

After 12 years, do you really expect the raw water pump impeller to be any good? Along with any of the Bellows, oils, gas, carb, ignition system, manifolds, risers or..........
