165 overheating

i put a 165 inline 6 cly into to my larson 18 footer it overheats at high rpm is the 6 cly exhaust elbow larger than the 4 cly because i used the 4 cly elbow on the engine can any one help

Not sure but I would not think a smaller elbow would overheat the engine at all, just reduce it's output.<br /><br />But I would expect that the 6 would need more water flow than the 4 to cool the engine. <br /><br />Open or closed cooling system? <br />Impeller condition in outdrive?

Same problem in my 165. Elbow was shot. Also learned during this process that the centrifigal distributor could have been the problem (if you have that). Check to make sure the springs on the weights are good.

exhaust elbow is the same, 4 or 6.
